Take a Hike!

[Get Moving]

Hiking has got to be one of my new favorite things to do on the weekends. I mean, is there a better way to spend a gorgeous fall morning?? I think not!

The crisp fall air and changing leaves are just beautiful. Hiking allows you to see amazing sites, and experience nature in an amazing way.

The great thing about hiking is its fun! You don't feel like you’re doing the same boring workout routine, but you’re burning major calories.

So I want to challenge you to grab a friend or get a group to go for a hike this weekend. I have even made it easy for you. Here's a link to hiking trails in Georgia and you can find all the information you need. And the great thing about this website is it’s a trail finder so you can look search by difficulty or scenic view or anything your heart desires. Enjoy!

Leslie's lesson: wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing. Don't forget water and a snack!

Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Leslie Faust

Fall is Here

[food is fuel]

Finally fall is in the air!

That means Pumpkin, squash, sweet potato, and apples!!!

I love fall; especially fall food.

Lately sweet potato has been my obsession. I mean why wouldn't it be?? Its nutrition content fits my needs for carbohydrates perfectly.

Yes I just said I needed carbs. EVERYONE needs carbs. I don't care what you have heard. Carbs will not make you fat. I promise!

Let’s break it down. There are two types of carbohydrates simple and complex.

Simple carbs are fruits, milk, white flour, cereal, etc.

Complex carbs are veggies, whole grains, legumes, etc.

Carbs act like an IV of energy to your muscles, providing continues energy for your workout.

An athlete needs to consume 2.5-4.5 grams per pound of body weight.

So why do I love sweet potatoes?

They are a complex carb. They are full of vitamins A, C and E which aid in muscle recovery. Not only do sweet potatoes provide you with sustained energy but they are also a good source of iron. Iron helps with the transportation of oxygen to your muscles. If you aren't consuming enough iron you may fatigue much faster in your workout.

My favorite way to cook them is to peel and boil them until tender, then mash them up, add in a little brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of cloves for a delicious side dish. Yummm!!

Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Leslie Faust

The WANT To Win...

"Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is."
–Vince Lombardi
As you continue your high school and middle school seasons think about this quote. If you have ever played for me you know that I love winning. (I don't know that anyone else loves it more than me.) But sometimes playing your BEST and winning do not align in the stars. It is more that you have the desire to want to win. For example, when we scrimmage our older power teams we aren't always going into it to win but playing our hearts out and fighting for that win!

I think about this quote a lot during our tryouts. When it comes to tryouts some talented players want to know why they got cut or placed on lower level teams. When I pick my teams I look for the player who WANTS to be better who WANTS to win. We run into players who think they are great or that they DESERVE to win. This mentality is cancerous to a team and that is why I prefer to take a player that has more heart.

This quote can be used in all areas of life... Think about it...

Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Lauren Sands

Kinesio Tape

[Mystery Box]

Have you ever seen an athlete with that weird looking tape on their knee, shoulder or ankle?

Well that tape is called Kinesio tape!

Kinesio tape is currently being used to change muscle tone, move lymphatic fluids, correct movement patterns, and improve posture.

When the tape is placed properly on an injury it lifts the skin and creates more space between the skin and the muscle. That allows the lymphatic fluid to drain easier. It also can relieve pressure from compressed nerve receptors.

Meaning.... It can help pain from injuries!

This tape not only helped me after a rotator cuff injury from volleyball, but millions of athletes on all levels.  The best thing about it is its simplicity with no adverse side effects. The ability to use it to relieve pain and to prevent injury is incredible.

You can find this tape online or at local sporting good stores.

To learn a little more on Kinesio Tape refer to this link.
